Cecelia's Christian Fiction Blog

A fun place to discuss Christian novels, the Bible, and writing-related topics. Although my focus is Christian fiction, I'll still talk about an occasional secular fiction title or an inspirational non-fiction book.

The Christmas Box!

I opened my closet last weekend and pulled out my Christmas box! What's in it? Christmas CDs and DVDs to enjoy for the holidays! Here are the selections in my Christmas box!

1. A Charlie Brown Christmas CD and DVD - this thing has been on TV for as long as I can remember! What a heartwarming story that's still a hit today!

Original Christmas Classics DVD set which includes:

2. Frosty The Snowman DVD
3. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town DVD
4. Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer DVD
I can remember seeing all three of these shows on TV every year since I was a kid!

5. The Polar Express DVD - this selection is what I consider "new". My hubby and I went to see this in the theater and this was before we had a child.

6. The Vanessa Williams Christmas Collection CD - I mostly listen to this while traveling in the car!

7. Jackson 5 Christmas Album - My four-year-old son LOVES listening to this! He especially enjoys Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer!

8.

The Nutcracker CD - my husband doesn't care for this, but I love the music! If I play it in the car, it's usually when I'm alone!

Do you have a Christmas box or Christmas music and DVDs that you enjoy every year? If you do, what are your selections? I'd love to know!

I have to hear Alvin and the chipmunks. It's not Christmas without them. It always takes me back to a little kid baking Christmas cookies with my sisters.

The one movie I long to see every year is the Walton's pilot called the
"Homecoming". Unfortunately, it doesn't play often, so I am still
looking for it in DVD or VCR. From what I was told it is out of print,
and I don't shop E-bay.

When it comes to music - hands down, it's the Carpenters. Of course a
little Percy the Puny Poinsettia is great mixed in with Bing, Perry, and
Nat - ah, the good ole days.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to one and all!

YES, I do remember the movie The Homecoming! It was out ages ago, I believe back in the seventies. Doesn't Elizabeth get a doll for a prize or something and it turns out the doll is broken? But, I might be confusing that scene with another Waltons episode?

Cecelia:
Yes, you got the right movie. It is just a lovely story and the only thing I don't like about it is Patricia Neal in the role of the mother, Olivia. It was her big come back after her stroke, but she just doesn't live up to Michael Learned's Olivia.

It's funny, after I posted to the list, I thought of the very scene you mentioned. It was so sad. It makes me think of my mother, who lived through the depression with seven brothers and a sister. Things were tight....

Have a Happy, Happy!

ok, this household is on with national lampoon's christmas vacation. we just watched it this week while decorating the tree and i nearly wet myself laughing so hard (and the high octane eggnog didn't hurt either).

other fave movie is A Christmas Story, tho that one's harder to get the family rallied around for some reason - probably a little too much nostalgia for a couple of 17 year olds.

we also love sinatra, and i'm in agreement with judith on bing. and the mannheim steamroller christmas albums are a standard year round for us (they live in my car). and my older son introduced us to the Trans Siberian Orchestra, so that generally gets put on at some point also.

(i should probably also mention that they aren't truly The Holidays for hubby until he can watch Rudolph.)

My brother and his wife have a tradition of watching NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION every year. I was visiting them a few years ago when they invited me to watch it with them. I'd seen it before but still enjoyed it. About halfway through I realized I was the only one laughing and looked over to see why. They were both sound asleep.

I think my current favorite Christmas movie is LOVE ACTUALLY, which may appeal to a lot of readers of this blog. Or possibly not; my aforementioned brother's wife can't abide Hugh Grant and claims all women hate him with the heat of a thousand suns.

It was rather interesting for me to read the article. Thanx for it. I like such themes and everything connected to them. I would like to read a bit more on that blog soon.
